NiDCOM Addresses Detention of Nigerian Tourists in Cape Verde

- NiDCOM reports that the group is currently in a distressed state at the detention center

NiDCOM has voiced significant concern regarding the recent detention of six Nigerian tourists by immigration authorities in Cape Verde, Eko Hot Blog reports.
The group, which had traveled from Senegal for a vacation, faced accusations of insufficient funds upon arrival and had their mobile phones confiscated before being transferred to an immigration deportation facility at the airport.

The detained individuals include David James Udoh, Lily Dada, Oghenero Adaware, Sherifat Abimbola Ogundairo, Jesutomi Aina, and a representative of Ìrìn Travels, the travel agency that organized the trip.
NiDCOM reports that the group is currently in a distressed state at the detention center, with one of the tourists dealing with a medical condition but lacking access to necessary medication.
The commission has urged Cape Verdean authorities to treat the Nigerians with dignity and promptly arrange their return to Dakar, where they can reconnect to Nigeria.
It was reported that the families of the six detained Nigerian tourists, aged between 25 and 31, are deeply worried about their health and safety.
These tourists were detained by immigration authorities in Cape Verde upon arrival for a vacation from Senegal, accused of not having sufficient funds and having their mobile phones confiscated.

NiDCOM has officially reported the matter to the Consular and Migration Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, anticipating further diplomatic actions to secure a prompt resolution with Cape Verde.
