Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has said the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS) remains a vital platform for the Nigerian Diaspora to significantly contribute to the country’s economic growth and development.
Dabiri-Erewa made this statement during a press conference ahead of the 7th Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS 2024) in Abuja.
She recalled that since its inception in 2018, the NDIS has empowered the Diaspora to channel their resources, expertise, and networks into fostering economic growth and creating opportunities for Nigerians at home.
According to her, the NDIS serves as a bridge connecting diaspora investors with local entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and start-ups across various sectors of the Nigerian economy.
Additionally, the NiDCOM boss highlighted the summit’s role in creating jobs, spurring innovation, and diversifying Nigeria’s economic base.
She noted that over the past six years, the summit has evolved into a dynamic forum, facilitating interactions between diaspora investors, potential business partners, sponsors, and government officials.
Dabiri-Erewa assured that the 7th edition of the summit will be exceptional, featuring insightful discussions, networking opportunities, and actionable strategies to harness the potential of the Nigerian Diaspora.
She encouraged all interested parties to register and follow up for further details at ndisng.com and nidcom.gov.ng.
Dabiri-Erewa also announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, will deliver a goodwill message, while Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Mr. Niyi Olajide will serve as Special Guests of Honor.
The NiDCOM boss proudly acknowledged many success stories of start-up companies over the years, which have attracted investments of more than N500 million into the country.
She extended her appreciation to the President, the Nigerian National Assembly—particularly the Chairmen and members of the Senate and House Committees on Diaspora—the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA), the Nigeria Investment Promotion Council (NIPC), the NEPC, public and private entities, sponsors, and the media for their unwavering support in ensuring the continued success of NDIS.
Dr. Badewa Adejugbe-Williams, the Coordinator of NDIS, who joined the event virtually, reiterated the summit’s proven potential and significance in attracting resources that drive economic growth in Nigeria. She emphasized that the summit is not just a forum, but a catalyst for uniting all Nigerians in the effort to improve the country’s economic status, stating, “We are all part of the solution.”
She commended Dabiri-Erewa for her efforts in reshaping Nigeria’s narrative for the better, both domestically and in the Diaspora.
Additionally, Kachi Okezie, Esq., a team member of the NDIS, outlined the eligibility criteria for participation, noting that prospective pitchers are interviewed, profiled, and tutored on how to present during the pitching session, free of charge.
The Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS) is an annual project of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) and the Nigerian Diaspora Summit Initiative (NDSI). This year’s summit will focus on key sectors driving investment and fostering growth in Nigeria, including finance, ICT, fintech, creative industries, sports and entertainment, agribusiness, healthcare, education, real estate and infrastructure, as well as manufacturing and mining.
