NIDCOM Lauds U-VOL Foundation for Advancing Maternal Health in Benue State

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has commended the United Vessels of Love (U-VOL) Foundation for its efforts in advancing maternal health in Benue State, Nigeria.

In a statement signed by Gabriel Odu of the Media, Public Relations, and Protocols Unit of NIDCOM, Chairman Abike Dabiri-Erewa praised the foundation for completing its second Maternal Health Training Session at St. Charles Hospital and Maternity in Adoka, Benue State.

This initiative has provided Nigerian midwives with essential resources to perform 50 safe, facility-based births.

Dabiri-Erewa emphasized that the foundation has truly earned the National Diaspora Merit Award it received last July 2024 during the National Diaspora Day celebrations.

Encouraging the U-VOL Foundation to maintain its momentum, Dabiri-Erewa urged the organization to continue its efforts in upscaling healthcare services for underserved communities across Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the Founder and CEO of U-VOL Foundation, Faith Adole, shared her belief that providing consistent and intentional healthcare services to these communities is both a call to volunteerism and an opportunity to give back to society.

She underscored the significance of training healthcare providers with life-saving skills during a recent two-day intensive program in Adoka communities.

The initiative successfully equipped 19 nurses, midwives, public health physicians, and community health workers with essential tools to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes.

Adole also expressed satisfaction with the donation of 19 Direct Relief Midwife kits to St. Charles Hospital and Maternity.

Each kit contains 61 essential items that provide midwives with the resources to perform 50 safe, facility-based births.

“Our goal is not just to provide training but also to create sustainable solutions that empower the local workforce.

“This programme is just the beginning. By continuing to train midwives, public health workers, and physicians, and by collaborating with institutions like the State Ministry of Health, medical teaching institutions, and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, we are laying the foundations for long-term maternal health improvements in Nigeria.

“Over the course of the training, participants engaged in hands-on learning covering key maternal and neonatal health topics, including life-saving resuscitation techniques, pre-eclampsia and eclampsia management, complex birth complications, family planning and birth control options, handling obstetric emergencies, emergency cesarean section and surgical skills, and infection control in maternal and neonatal care,” she added.
