NIDCOM To Hold 15th National Diaspora Day July 25
The Nigeria diaspora commission (NIDCOM) has fixed Saturday, July 25 for the 2020 edition of national diaspora day
The Saturday event, which will commence by 2pm, will mark the 15th anniversary of the annual celebration of Nigerians in foreign land.
The theme of this year’s event is ‘leveraging diaspora resources for national development in COVID-19 era’
President Muhammadu Buhari and minister of state for foreign affairs amb. Zubairu Dada are expected to present a goodwill message at the event.
Keynote speaker for the day is Usai Ujiri, president of operation, Toronto raptons, Canada.
Distinguished and array of panelist and speakers have been pencilled for the day, they include, Victor Edozien, Bankole Wellington; better known as Banky W, Kate Osamor, Chi Omwurah, Prof Augustine Esogbue.
Chief host of the event is CEO of NIDCOM, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

The significance of diaspora Nigeria to the development of the country and the assistance they render to people back home cannot be overemphasised.
Nigeria received $17.57 billion in direct diaspora remittances between January and November 2019. Data obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) revealed.
Remittances are funds transferred from migrants to their home countries. For many developing nations, remittances from citizens working abroad provide a financial source of much-needed funds.
Similarly, medical practitioners, especially doctors, from Nigeria in foreign countries have made it an annual rites to return to Nigeria to help in the health sector by offering free medical services to people.
The president Buhari government on the other hand has made repositioning of the economy the cardinal point of his administration, through robust policy that will engender conducive and friendly environment for local and foreign businesses to thrive. The government has also invested heavily in infrastructure development.
The aforementioned steps being taken by the government is to create an allure of beautiful nation with new vista and imperatives, that will in turn attract Nigerians in diaspora to come back home and contribute to nation building.
NIDCOM under Dabiri-Erewa
Despite the many hurdles on her way, NIDCOM under the indefatigable Abike Dabiri-Erewa has recorded significant success and has been instrumental to the portrayal of the country’s image in good light.
The commisson was able to make a case for Nigerians who are unfairly treated in foreign countries. It also liaised with other countries to secure the release of Nigerians who are being subjected to cruel and dehumanizing treatment.
It also came to the aid of medical personnel in the frontline of the COVID-19 battle. through donations from Nigeria in Diaspora, the commission gave personal protective equipment and other essential medical equipment to the doctors.
