Speaking to reporters immediately after signing the budget, Hajiya Ramatu Umar, Permanent Secretary of the Niger State Planning Commission, revealed that the 2021 budget was revised downward due to a large decrease in income inflows to the state.

According to her, “Based on the revenue inflow to the state, there was a short fall leading to the downward review of the expectation for the year. We had to review downward in order to be on the safer side, to absorb the shock.

“We removed from the allocations that were not utilized to the needed projects and this was as a result of emerging issues that were not taken into cognizance in the budget during the preparation of the initial budget. So, we have to review the budget in order to meet up our aspirations and developmental projects.”

Umar stated that the amended budget included N72.5 billion for recurrent spending and 77.3 billion for capital expenditure, totalling N149.9 billion for the revised 2021 budget.

She stated that the economic sector received the most funding in the amended budget, with N54.7 billion, followed by the social sector with N14.8 billion, the administrative sector with N7.2 billion, and law and justice with N580 million.
