EKO HOT BLOG reports that this significant achievement was announced by Dr. Omar Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, during the 66th Ordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, which took place at the State House in Abuja.

Speaking at the summit, Dr. Touray highlighted the importance of the payment, noting that it marked a major milestone in Nigeria’s commitment to regional integration and development.

He attributed the achievement to the leadership and dedication of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as the Nigerian government and its citizens, underscoring the pivotal role Nigeria plays within the ECOWAS community.

“This payment, made on Friday, December 13, 2024, is the first time in 19 years that Nigeria has paid 100 percent of its community levy. The ₦84 billion and $54 million represent the full 2023 levy and the levy for 2024 up to July,” Dr. Touray stated.

He further expressed his appreciation for the payment, stating that it not only reflects Nigeria’s leadership but also signifies a strong vote of confidence in the vision of ECOWAS, particularly his leadership since he assumed the position of ECOWAS Commission President in 2022.
