Eko Hot Blog reports that in a fierce rebuttal, the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government has accused cryptocurrency trading platform Binance of attempting to blackmail Nigeria.

This accusation comes in the wake of Binance’s allegation that top government officials demanded $150 million in cryptocurrency to settle criminal charges against the firm.

However, the government vehemently denied the claim, stating, “This claim by Binance CEO lacks any iota of substance. It is nothing but a diversionary tactic and an attempted act of blackmail.”

Additionally, the federal government highlighted the grave charges Binance is facing in Nigeria, including money laundering, terrorism financing, and foreign exchange manipulation through illegal trading.

“The facts of this matter remain that Binance is being investigated in Nigeria for allowing its platform to be used for money laundering, terrorism financing, and foreign exchange manipulation through illegal trading,” the statement read.

Moreover, the government lambasted Binance’s alleged “orchestrated international campaign” aimed at undermining Nigeria, as the company faces criminal prosecution in multiple countries, including the United States.
