EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Super Eagles of Nigeria failed to qualify for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup after a 1-1 draw with the Black Stars of Ghana on Tuesday evening at the National Stadium Abuja.
Last Monday, the Black Stars of Ghana held the Super Eagles of Nigeria to a goalless draw in Kumasi, Ghana, giving them an advantage over the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Ghana has qualified for the global showpiece in Qatar thanks to a key goal in Abuja.
However, below are some of the mistakes and lessons learned
1. The Super Eagles’ failure to utilize their chances
Despite being the best team tonight, the Nigeria Super Eagles failed to crown their efforts with goals as Napoli’s striker, Victor Osimhen missed several opportunities.
The Napoli ace played a vital role in the Super Eagles’ loss tonight, as he failed to put the ball into the back of the net out of the several opportunities he got in the match, especially in the second 45 minutes of the half.
2. Eguaveon was out of ideas
Eguavoen showed that he’s not a tactical coach. The coach failed to realize that Bassey was the weakest link in the attack until it was too late.
Eguaveon was very predictable with his sub, and this affected the team’s performance. Players like Sanusi and Kelechi were left on the bench, Eguaveon failed to introduce these key players that would have made the difference.
Playing Calvin Bassey who probably doesn’t understand the Super Eagles’ pattern of play for almost 70 minutes. Bassey was Shaky at the backline and lost possession of the ball 21 times and couldn’t make accurate passing.
Emmanuel Dennis also wasted much time on the ball, trying to dance around the Black stars player. In a match where the Super Eagles needed victory, unfortunately, the coach could spot all these shaky displays by some players.
3. Lack of creativity in the midfield and porous defence.
The midfielder’s over-reliance on the wing has now cost Nigeria the World Cup ticket. Just like at AFCON 2021, Augustine Eguavoen relies on his wing for creativity, and this makes him predictable. After Lookman was replaced by Simon, the left-wing became dormant. Also, Eguavoen failed to introduce creative players like Iheanacho and Amoo.
Francis Uzoho the man of the match in Kumasi made a serious blunder that cost the super eagles. He wasn’t composed and the defence was porous.
Uzoho gave Ghana an advantage with his blunder. The Super Eagles were in control of the game until that mistake and pressure took over the Super Eagles immediately after the goal.
