EKO HOT BLOG reports that personnel of the 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have recovered 1,671 Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) from an apartment in the Olodi-Apapa area of Lagos State.
In addition to the PVCs, the security operatives also discovered ballot papers, cutlasses, and Indian hemp in the apartment, and arrested three persons, while the prime suspect remains at large.
EDITOR’S PICKS:
The Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen. Isang Akpaumontia, who paraded the suspects and recovered items before journalists at the Ikeja Cantonment, disclosed that the arrest and recovery were made following a tip-off.
He noted that most of the PVCs had the year 2022 as the registration number, while others had years 2011, 2012, and 2021, and all the owners were residents of Lagos State.
Akpaumontia explained that the suspects were arrested with drugs, daggers, charms, and over 1,000 PVCs in the Apapa general area. The owner of the house, who is the prime suspect, was traced to a hotel, but he escaped. He added that the suspects and exhibits would be handed over to the appropriate authorities to ensure that justice is served and to deter others from engaging in such activities.
The recovery of the PVCs has raised concerns about the integrity of the electoral process, as the PVCs are essential for eligible voters to participate in elections. The incident has prompted calls for increased vigilance and security measures to safeguard the electoral process.
It is unclear why the suspects had such a large number of PVCs and ballot papers in their possession, and investigations are ongoing to determine their motives and whether they were acting alone or as part of a larger network.
