Nigerian Army Cracks Down On Oil Bunkering Activities
Eko Hot Blog reports the Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to combating criminal activities associated with crude oil installations vandalism in the Niger Delta region.
Major General Hassan Dada, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division, emphasized this resolve following a successful operation against suspected oil thieves at Isimmiri Waterside in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.
In a statement released on Monday, Dada disclosed that six suspects were apprehended in connection with illegal oil bunkering during the operation. Additionally, 14 oil bunkering vessels loaded with stolen crude oil were seized.
“The seized vessels, including eight large Cotonou boats, will be set ablaze,” Dada confirmed.
Accompanied by Brigadier General Olusola Diya, Commander of the 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Dada stated that the suspects had been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and prosecution.

“Our presence at the creek was to fulfill one of the objectives of Operation Udoka, which is to prevent any form of economic sabotage within our operational jurisdiction,” Dada asserted.
He explained that the operation was conducted based on actionable intelligence, revealing that the suspects were intercepted just as they were preparing to siphon crude oil from the pipeline.
“The suspects had already sunk some crude oil-laden boats in the water before our troops arrived. All 14 boats were subsequently destroyed in accordance with the Standing Operating Procedure,” Dada added.
He noted that the individual responsible for the location under scrutiny was currently evading arrest but assured that efforts were underway to apprehend him.
“This is indicative of a larger criminal network, possibly financing terrorism through illicit activities. We will intensify our operations to ensure that economic sabotage is curtailed,” Dada warned.
“The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its stance against any activities detrimental to the nation’s economy,” he concluded.
