According to the Army, contrary to Gumi’s recent claims to bandits that Christian soldiers were killing the bandits, troops are not deployed along religious or ethnic lines.

“While the Nigerian Army does not wish to get involved in any disputes with Sheikh Ahmed Gumi, it is necessary to reiterate that the Nigerian Army, as a national institution, does not deploy troops along ethnic or religious lines.

“As a result, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi and other opinion merchants are kindly enjoined to exercise caution so as not to bring one of the most reliable national institutions into disrepute,” the statement read in part.

The cleric “was seen telling bandits that soldiers involved in attacks against them were non-Muslims,” according to a video. They should also be conscious that soldiers are divided into Muslims and non-Muslims, according to Gumi.
