The Defence Department said it was “disgraceful” that the Nigerian military could bow down and “spy” on prominent Yoruba activist Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho.
This comes after Igboho and his colleagues in a widely circulated video released on Friday alleged that “soldiers” sent by the Federal Government were ‘searching’ the Sunday Igboho house in Soka Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
But responding to the allegations in a statement on Saturday, the Deputy Director of Security for Media Operations, Brig.-Gen. Benard Onyeuko, said,
“While the Security Council has no interest in engaging or engaging in discussions with Sunday Adeyemo or his colleagues, it is important to clear the air and address these allegations completely.
“For the record, it should be noted that the Nigerian Army, is highly skilled in the conduct of its operations, with their excellent performance, weight and responsibility in its mission of ensuring the full territorial integrity of Nigerian Nigeria.
“Likewise, the military cannot bow down to the point of” spying “on a single person, as alleged by the message.
“The Nigerian Armed Forces is a highly disciplined and professional body with rules and regulations that guide the conduct of its personnel.
“Therefore, it is not possible for retired military officers to carry out their duties as alleged by Adeyemo and his colleagues,” he concluded.
Onyeuko went on to say that preliminary investigations revealed that one of the alleged “soldiers” was a swindler, warning individuals and groups to refrain from defaming the Nigerian Army, EKO HOT BLOG gathered.
He added, “To avoid suspicion, preliminary investigations have revealed that one of the” soldiers “was an alleged swindler.
“Eyewitnesses and sources also said that some Igboho friends were following some people when the motorcycle carrying the impersonator collided with a Nigerian Air Force officer.
The two were immediately arrested and taken to the Igboho’s House in Soka before the Ibadan entrance where they were branded as spies.
Furthermore, Airforce and the Nigerian Army are currently investigating to find out the exact details of the day.
