Ba Yuram is the leader of the ISWAP terrorists who took over the group following the killing of Boko Haram Leader, Abubakar Shekau, last year.
It was gathered that the military got hold of credible intelligence information about the gathering of some terrorists at his den in Sambisa Forest for a particular mission.
Based on this, fighter jets were mobilized and dispatched to the location from the Air Component of Operation of Hadin Kai.
A military source quoted by PR Nigeria says the airstrikes were successful and many of the terrorists were killed. It could however not be confirmed if the ISWAP leader was also killed in the air strike.
The source said: “An assessment of the location after the strikes revealed it to be successful, though it remained unconfirmed if Fiya Ba Yuram was among the terrorists neutralized in the strikes”.
Another military intelligence officer said a similar operation was also carried out at a suspected training camp for ISWAP fighters in the Tunbuns near Lake Chad.
The terrorists were neutralized in the NAF airstrike.
“The targets were subsequently acquired and engulfed in flames all after. The aftermath of the airstrike revealed that pandemonium broke out as the remnant of surviving terrorists took cover under nearby trees which were later struck by the aircraft,” the officer disclosed.
When contacted, the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet confirmed the strikes.
