EKO HOT BLOG reports that troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued three kidnapped victims in a confrontation with their abductors at a community in Kaduna State.
The development was confirmed to newsmen in a statement on Friday morning by the Brigadier-General, Director, Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu.
The army spokesman said the victims were rescued in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of the state while troops were conducting an inspection of the environment by a combined team of operatives headed by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army, Maj Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, accompanied by a team of operational commanders and operatives.
He said the team, during the patrol on Thursday, August 25, 2022, came in contact with the kidnappers in Manini village, along Pole Wire-Birnin Gwari road, Birnin Gwari.
Nwachukwu explained that the assailants had abducted the victims and were taking off when they were confronted by the GOC’s team.
The troops, according to him, engaged them in a hot exchange of fire, compelling the kidnappers to scamper in disarray with gunshot wounds into a nearby forest, abandoning their abductees.
He said two adult males and an elderly woman rescued have been conveyed to Kaduna, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
