Eko Hot Blog reports in a night filled with anticipation, Nigerian music sensations, including Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Asake, and Olamide, faced disappointment as they missed out on winning accolades at the 66th Grammy Awards.
The nominees, who had garnered significant attention, failed to secure victories in their respective categories.
Burna Boy led the pack with four nominations, while Davido, in his Grammy debut, earned three nods. Asake, Ayra Starr, and Olamide each received one nomination.
The inaugural Best African Music Performance category, featuring the Nigerian quintet alongside South Africa’s Tyla, saw Tyla emerge victorious during the Grammy Award Premiere Ceremony at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
In the Best Global Music Album and Best Global Music Performance categories, Davido and Burna Boy contended but were unable to clinch the prestigious awards.
Despite Burna Boy’s additional nomination for Best Melodic Rap Performance, none of the Nigerian artists secured a win, marking a night of mixed emotions for the talented musicians.
The spotlight shifted to South African singer Tyla, whose track ‘Water’ triumphed over stiff competition, including Davido’s ‘Unavailable,’ Asake’s ‘Amapiano,’ Burna Boy’s ‘City Boys,’ and Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush.’
The 66th Grammy Awards highlighted the global recognition of outstanding musical achievements, but Nigerian artists will have to wait for future editions to potentially make their mark on this prestigious stage.
