Three Nigerian Athletes Climb World Athletics Rankings After 2024 Olympics

Nigerian sprinters Favour Ofili and Samuel Ogazi, along with shot put thrower Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, have made significant strides in the latest World Athletics rankings following the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Ofili, who secured sixth place in the women’s 200m, has ascended to eighth in the global 200m rankings, establishing herself as the leading African athlete in this event. She is currently ranked 138th overall in the women’s rankings.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Ogazi, who reached the final in the men’s 400m, has achieved a notable climb to 12th in the world and third in Africa, an impressive leap from his previous 23rd position.

Additionally, 19-year-old Kanyinsola Ajayi, who advanced to the semi-finals of the men’s 100m, has moved up to 23rd in the global rankings for the event and is positioned seventh in Africa.

In men’s shot put, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, a two-time African champion, has risen to seventh in the world following his performance at the Olympics.

Furthermore, in the overall rankings, pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis holds the highest position among male athletes, followed by Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen and new Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles.
