Nigerian Celebrities React To Naira Scarcity

  • With Nigerians struggling to come to terms with the scarcity of the naira notes in circulation, Nigerian celebrities have risen to the occasion to air their grievances.

EKO HOT BLOG report that a number of Nigerian celebrities have taken to their social media platforms to air their frustrations over the new Naira notes scarcity situation of the country that has somehow succeeded in bringing the country to a halt.

The shortage of the newly redesigned notes has made it difficult for them to carry out their daily transactions, as most street vendors do not have point of sale (POS) machines for electronic transactions.

Actor Femi Adebayo Salami described getting the new money as a difficult task and called it “gold”.

He went on to say that getting cash for everyday needs, such as buying food items, was a frustrating experience.

Comedian Akpororo called for the investigation of money changers, questioning how they were able to obtain the new Naira notes, which are being exchanged for old notes at exorbitant rates.

BBNaija Season six winner, Whitemoney, also expressed his disappointment after witnessing N700,000 worth of the new notes being sold for N1 million at a party. He wondered how money changers were able to have the new notes in such surplus quantities while the masses are queuing up at banks for hours.

Veteran Nollywood actress, Susan Peters, took to her verified Instagram page to demand that the Department of State Service (DSS) expose those who have the audacity to sell the new notes, which are not yet fully in circulation.

Peters wrote that she wanted to know the root cause of the shortage, whether it was the banks, bank managers, or bank workers, before blaming third parties for the shortage.
