Nigerian Football Star In Croatia Dreams Super Eagles call-up

Iyayi Atiemwen, the Nigerian who plays his football with Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia, says he is patiently waiting for his chance to play for the Super Eagles.

“Everyone would love to wear the green and white jersey of Nigeria so when it’s time for me, I believe I will show myself,” the 23-year old told the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) after making his third European Champions League appearance for the Croatian champions against Manchester City on Tuesday evening.

“For now I can’t say much. We have a big population so whatever chance you are given, you must go and do all you can. For now, I am just waiting for the right time and right call.”

Atiemwen says he has been steadily enjoying his football in the Croatian top flight league since his move from Turkey in 2017.

He says like with any other league in Europe, playing football in Croatia is tough.

“The biggest challenge so far has been playing in the Champions League but it means a lot for me,” said Atiemwen.

He has so far scored three goals in six games in the Croatian top flight league.

Nigeria will play Brazil on 13 October in Singapore in an international friendly.

The last time the two countries met at senior level was in June 2003 in Abuja with Nigeria losing that match 3-0.

Brazil will also play Senegal for the first time in Singapore.
