Nigerian Footballer Slumps, Dies On Field

  • A Nigerian footballer has slumped and died on the field.

The residents of Angwa-Ali community in the Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have been thrown into mourning following the death of a footballer identified simply as Jonah.

EKO HOT BLOG gathered that the footballer slumped and died while playing on the field last weekend.

However, some of his friends and fans, who took to social media to mourn the demise of the Nigerian footballer, said he would be sorely missed.

One Okefu Abraham, who mourn Jonah via his Facebook page, wrote, “Rest in peace… A friend who turns brother… Akwanga will miss u, the Depot football team will miss u, Angwa-Ali will miss u but I will miss u more.”

Another friend of the Nasarawa footballer, Gomma Leonard, also mourn Jonah on his Facebook page.

He wrote, “My buddy, my aboki, my brother you promised me to perform with me at the studio if I come home this time.  Is that the promise we made buddy, why did you leave me, why so soon buddy? We have been planning to make it in life since primary school up till now but why aboki you leave me with sadness, but wish you dey.  God knows why he called you but you are still in my heart buddy, never forget you are no more in body but we’re together in spirit brother missed you, heartbreaking to me buddy.”

On his part, a Facebook user, Isaac Luka, noted that the death of the deceased had shocked the Nasarawa community, saying, “What a sad Reality to lose a young and energetic guy. He died when playing a football match on the field. Jonah may your soul rest in peace… Angwan Ali Lafia Road Akwanga is in sad moment. Your death has shocked the whole youths.”

Meanwhile, when contacted, the Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, said the tragic incident was not reported to the police.
