Nigerian inmates at the AbaSamuel Prison in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, have expressed happiness following the signing of a Prisoner Transfer Agreement between Nigeria and Ethiopia.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the bilateral arrangement, facilitated by the Federal Government through the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, will enable eligible Nigerian convicts in Ethiopia to be repatriated to Nigeria to complete their jail terms.

The development has been widely welcomed by the affected inmates, who said it gives them hope of returning home and serving the remainder of their sentences closer to their families.

They also commended President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government, describing the agreement as a positive step toward improving the welfare of Nigerians abroad.
Reacting via her X account, Ojukwu said the atmosphere among the inmates was filled with excitement, noting that they reacted with joy upon hearing the news of the agreement.
She described the moment as emotional, adding that the prisoners expressed strong relief at the possibility of being transferred back to Nigeria under the new arrangement signed between both countries.

According to her, the administration remains committed to the welfare of Nigerians overseas under its Renewed Hope agenda.
The agreement is expected to strengthen cooperation between Nigeria and Ethiopia in criminal justice matters, allowing sentenced persons to be transferred to serve their terms in their home countries.
