EKO HOT BLOG reports that Anthony Akueche, a Nigerian national, has been arrested in Mumbai, India, for reportedly carrying commercial quantities of Mephedrone (MD) and cocaine valued at Rs 5.36 crore ($1,340,000).
According to the Indian Express newspaper, Akueche was apprehended in Wadala by Mumbai Police Crime Branch Unit 4 officers in the early hours of Sunday.
He traveled all the way from Delhi to sell the drugs.
A team of crime branch authorities set up a trap in the region after receiving information that a Nigerian national was planning to sell the contraband at Anik bus depot on the Chembur-Sewree route in Wadala, officials added.
They said they saw a man carrying a bag near the scene about 2.50 a.m.
The squad apprehended him and searched his belongings, which included five “girls’ handbags.”
The bags seemed to be brand new, were large in size, and came in a variety of colors; officials stated that an additional layer of material was knitted within the purses to conceal the narcotics.
The officials found 4.96 kg of MD worth Rs 4.96 crore along with 198 grams of cocaine worth 39.60 lakh on him.
Akueche who is 39, was booked under the NDPS (Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act and produced before a court.
He was ordered to be remanded in police custody till November 25.
