EKO HOT BLOG reports that Inusa Godwin alias John, a Nigerian national, was apprehended by the Mumbai criminal branch’s Anti Narcotics Call (ANC) with a contraband drug valued 6.04 crore (N331,357,767.84)
The 36-year-old defendant was captured with nearly 2 kg of recreational drug methaqualone.
Officials added on Thursday that the accused is a notorious peddler who was previously detained by the Azad Maidan and Ghatkopar ANC units, as well as Sonegaon police in Nagpur, for similar offenses.
According to the officials, ANC officials of Kandivali unit received a tip-off that a drug peddler would come to Aarey Road in suburban Goregaon, accordingly, they laid a trap.
In the afternoon, a Nigerian national was seen in the area loitering suspiciously carrying a bag.
“He was apprehended over suspicion and during his search methaqualone weighing over 2.014 kilogram was recovered,” said Datta Nalawade, Deputy commissioner of police (ANC).
In the international market the value of the contraband substance is over Rs 6 crore, an official added.
Following the seizure, Godwin was arrested and charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and he was taken to court, where he was detained in police custody.
The drug is very addictive, and it was once used to treat sleep disorders and anxiety before being turned into a recreational drug. Over dose of methaqualone could result in a coma or even death in some cases, said officials.
