EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a positive turn of events, the Nigerian Army has rescued two additional girls from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno state.

These girls were abducted by Boko Haram in 2014, but nine years later, they were found by troops of 114 Taskforce Battalion Bitta at Lagara, under the 21 Armoured Brigade Bama, during operations on April 21, 2023. This brings the total number of rescued Chibok girls to 14.

The Theatre Commander, North-East Joint Operation, Hadin Kai, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Ali, made this known during a press briefing at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri. He revealed that the rescued victims were Hauwa Maltha and Esther Marcus, who were serial numbers two and 103 on the missing victims’ list.

Hauwa Maltha, a 26-year-old Kibaku from Jila in the Chibok local government area of Borno state, was rescued alongside her 3-year-old baby.

While in captivity, she got married to one Salman, a cameraman to Abubakar Shekau, in Gulukos village in Sambisa forest. However, Salman later died in Lake Chad. Hauwa Maltha then got married to one Mallam Muhammad in Gobara, and they had two children who later died due to sickness.

Her second husband, Muhammad, was also killed in Ukuba terrorist enclaves in the Sambisa forest during clashes between Boko Haram/ISWAP. During the time of her rescue, Hauwa was 8 months and 2 weeks pregnant, and she delivered a bouncing baby boy on April 28, 2023, while undergoing a thorough medical examination at the 7 Division Medical Hospital and Services.

Esther Marcus, a 26-year-old from Bitiala in Chibok LGA, was forcefully married to one Garba, also known as Garus, a Boko Haram fighter who was killed during troops’ offensive operations on terrorists’ enclaves. She was later married off to another insurgent, Abba, in Ukuba terrorist enclaves in Sambisa forest until her rescue by troops of Operation Hadin Kai.

Both victims and their babies underwent a thorough medical examination and were resuscitated. They will be handed over to the Borno State Government for further administration.
