EKO HOT BLOG reports that after a conflict between some youths and police in Ghana, at least one person was killed and another was critically injured.
The scuffle began when some Tema West Municipal Assembly officials sought to recapture the Kotobabi Market site.
According to GhanaWeb, squatters at the enclave defied police attempts to evict them.
It has been claimed that the market, widely known as Kotobabi Market, has become a haven for illicit activities such as commercial prostitution.
Tema West Municipal executive, Anna Adukwei Addo, told journalists that, “There were about 70 guys over here, they attacked the engineer, they attacked the police officers over here so because they even had to call for reinforcement and that is what you can see now.
“Some of them tried pulling the police officers, some even tried to slap them and as a result of that two people were shot, one is currently dead, the other one is still at the hospital.”
Some suspects, mostly Nigerians, were arrested by the police during the clash.
