Nigerians have started signing a petition, seeking the proscription of Fulani herdsmen and the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) as terrorists.
The petition, which was addressed to the United States President, Joe Biden; the United Nations; the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS); the African Union (AU); and the European Union (EU), has reached 107 signatories out of the 200 needed as of Monday morning.
The online petition titled, “To proscribe Fulani herdsmen, militants, and Miyetti Allah as terrorists”, accused the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government of sympathising with the “killer herdsmen” in the face of growing violence across the country.

“The government of Nigeria has obviously shown sympathy for the killer herdsmen, by turning a blind eye to their terrors and supporting them with Nigerian resources, including the Nigerian military.
“The only way to expose these terrorists is for the relevant authorities all over the world to act and act fast. This petition is for the Fulani herdsmen and militants and their association called Miyetti Allah to be proscribed as terrorists. Swift response will save lives and property and stop their menace from escalating into other nations of the world,” the petition read in part.
Eko Hot Blog had reported the tension that ensued in Igangan, Oyo State following a rally held by a Yoruba Activist, Sunday Igboho at the expiration of a 7-day ultimatum which led to some residents forcefully evicting the Seriki Fulani of the town.
This resulted in a meeting of the Southwest governors with the leadership of the Miyetti Allah, where it was agreed that all forms of open grazing should be banned across the region.
