Nigerians are among the highest social media users in the world, ranking fifth globally in average daily time spent online, according to 2024 data.
A report by Cable.co.uk and We Are Social, shared by World of Statistics on X, reveals that Nigerians spend an average of 3 hours and 23 minutes per day on social media platforms.

South Africa follows closely with an average of 3 hours and 37 minutes, while Brazil and the Philippines register 3 hours and 34 minutes and 3 hours and 33 minutes, respectively. Nigeria’s engagement of 3 hours and 23 minutes positions it just behind these countries in social media activity.
Other nations demonstrating high social media usage include Colombia, with users spending an average of 3 hours and 22 minutes; Chile and Indonesia, both at 3 hours and 11 minutes; and Saudi Arabia and Argentina, rounding out the top ten with 3 hours and 10 minutes and 3 hours and 8 minutes, respectively.
In contrast, some countries exhibit lower engagement levels.
For example, Ghana averages 2 hours and 43 minutes, followed by Egypt at 2 hours and 41 minutes, and Thailand at 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Among European nations, Portugal leads with 2 hours and 23 minutes, while Romania and Italy trail at 2 hours and 20 minutes and 2 hours and 17 minutes, respectively.
This data highlights the significant variations in social media usage across different regions, reflecting cultural and behavioral differences in digital engagement worldwide.
