Nigeria’s Database Not Compromised, Says FG
The federal government has allayed fears of concerned Nigerians over possibility of their vital information being in possession of criminals.
It refuted rumours making the rounds that Nigeria’s database has been compromised .
Ekohotblog understands that the government debunked the speculation on Wednesday in a statement issued by through the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
The commission said the data of Nigerians in its domain were safe and secure and that the information of citizens being disseminated on the internet did not emanate from its database.
There have been speculations that some persons are exposing the data of Nigerians on the cyberspace for pecuniary gains.
The conjecture gained momentum after the agency said foreign vendors locked it out of the previous database of Nigerians in the custody
But in the statement on Wednesday, Kayode Adegoke, NIMC spokesperson, said the information on breach of database was untrue.
“The NIMC would like to assure the public that there have been no such breaches or incidents. Investigations on the alleged data dump were found to be non-existent in the National Identity Database,” Adegoke said.
He said the Commission investigated the data breach claim and discovered that the database schema of the “adversary” did not correspond with the existing schema of NIMC records, adding that the data being shared by “criminals purporting to contain citizens’ information is fake”
