Nigeria’s Lawal wins UN award as global mobiliser of the year

Follow The Money, an initiative of Connected Development, has won the United Nations mobiliser of the year award at the SDG Global Fest for 2019.

Hamzat Lawal, the founder of CODE, received the award in Bonn, Germany on Thursday evening.

The UN says the SDG Action Awards “recognise individuals, civil society organisations, subnational governments, foundations, networks, and private sector leaders who are advancing the global movement for the Sustainable Development Goals in the most transformative, impactful and innovative way”.

Entries were received from more than 2,000 organisations from 142 countries, out of which three finalists were selected and invited to Bonn. This was done for each of the seven categories: mobilizser, storyteller, campaigner, connector, visualizser, includer and creative.

The mobiliser of the year award is given to “the project/team that demonstrates the greatest successes with mobilising individuals organisations or networks for collective action for the SDGs.”

Reacting to the award, Hamzat Lawal said: “Follow The Money, from Nigeria to the World. Our #SDGAwardsis dedicated to all the grassroots communities across Africa.”
