Nigeria’s Sports Minister Hails Amusan, Brume On Diamond League Success

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Nigerian Sports Minister, Sen. John Owan-Enoh, has congratulated Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume for their outstanding performance at the 2023 Diamond League in Oregon, U.S.

Amusan won the 100m Women’s Hurdles in 12.33s to retain her Diamond League title. She is now only the second woman in the history of the Diamond League to clinch three 100m hurdles titles in a row, equalling the record of Dawn Nelson-Harper.

Brume came close to winning her first Diamond League title after leaping 6.85m in the long jump event, just behind gold medalist Ivana Vuketa.

Owan-Enoh praised both athletes for their achievements, despite the challenges they faced. He urged them to stay focused on the bigger picture as they draw closer to the 2024 Olympic Games.

The Sports Minister’s comments are a welcome sign of support for Nigerian athletes. Amusan and Brume have both had remarkable seasons, and their success at the Diamond League is a testament to their hard work and dedication.
