The junta also accused France of “perpetuating a neocolonial operation against the Nigerien people.”
Macron has been a vocal critic of the coup, which took place on July 26. He has said that he does not recognize the junta and that France will continue to support Bazoum.
The junta has responded by expelling the French ambassador to Niger and demanding that French troops leave the country.
The standoff between the junta and France is the latest in a series of tensions between the two countries. In recent years, Niger has become increasingly critical of France’s military presence in the country.
