NIJ Beauty Pageantry

The Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) annual beauty pageantry, where Miss NIJ, Miss Amity and Miss Photogenic are normally chosen, has brought a great concern for the students as the chosen date for the pageantry is close and the order of the school closure by the federal government has not been reversed.

The pageantry which is one of the activities in the students’ week is a program which every bonafide student would never miss.
The eyes and hears of the students who have been looking forward to the pre-students’ week activities, especially the National Diploma one (ND I), are filled with concern as they view and listen to news report every day wishing the reverse of the school closure.
Moreover, another area that always touches the heart of the students is the composition of poems by some writers among the students for their choice within the candidates.

The below poem was written by Taofeek Ibrahim in 2019 for his preferred candidate, Mark Blessing, who won the position of Miss Photogenic in the end.

Who is the next Miss NIJ?

“Where is your stand Taofeek Ibrahim?”

Said by a Questioner to me like a hymn.

I couldn’t resist his question, I rather looked at him.

I couldn’t argue with someone who had just left the gym.

Well, as an entrepreneur, I will always have a stand.

But not to sell a common product rather a new brand.

I am doing this as a creative and innovative mind.

My product is a priceless Treasure discovered from NIJ Land.

She is a day by day discussion by each girl and boy.

Like “Dangote still, dey find money” by Burna-Boy.

“She is confirmed by everyone,” said Philip, the Happy Boy.

Goodness with Precious says she is a choice of every girl and boy.

Patronizing your stand is a sign and mark of blessing.

Your stand is my stand if your product is Mark Blessing.

Ha! All products will be judged; it seems you are missing.

The Judges; you and I are looking for nothing rather than a Blessing.
