NiMet Forecasts 3-Day Sunshine, Dust Haze

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has predicted sunshine and dust haze from Monday to Wednesday across the nation.

NiMet’s weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja predicted slight dust haze on Monday in the northern region with localised visibility of 2Km to 5Km over the region throughout the forecast period.

It said in the North Central region, sunny skies in hazy atmosphere are expected over the region throughout the forecast period.

Then in the southern region, sunny skies with patches of clouds are anticipated with prospects of thunderstorms with light rains expected over parts of Cross River, Rivers and Akwa Ibom States during the afternoon/evening hours.

According to the agency, moderate dust haze with localised visibility of less than 1,000m is anticipated over the region on Tuesday throughout the forecast period in the northern region.

It envisaged slight dust haze over the region throughout the forecast period in the North central region.

NiMet anticipated sunny skies in the southern region with patches of clouds with prospects of afternoon and evening thunderstorms.

It also predicted light rains over parts of Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.

According to NiMet, on Wednesday, in the northern region, moderate dust haze with localised visibility of less than 1,000m is anticipated over the region throughout the forecast period.

In the North Central region, Slight dust haze with localised visibility of 2km to 5Km is anticipated over the region throughout the forecast period.

In the southern region, it said sunny skies with patches of clouds are anticipated with prospects of afternoon and evening thunderstorms with light rains expected over parts of Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states,”it said.

It further stated that dust particles are in suspension, public should take necessary precaution and people with asthmatic health condition and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the present weather condition.

NiMet urged the public to take adequate precaution as strong winds might precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms were likely to occur.

It also advised airline operators to get weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
