NIMR Partners with Japanese Experts to Boost Medical Research in Nigeria
The Nigeria Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), led by the Director General, Prof John Obafunwa, has partnered with medical experts from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to strengthen international medical research collaboration in the country.
The institute on Monday hosted a team of nine medical experts from the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) in a bid to create alliance and foster medical partnerships.
The meeting focused on enhancing research efforts in areas like viral culturing, pathogen studies and HIV research.
In his welcome address, NIMR DG, Prof Obafunwa, stressed that the institute aims at upping the standards of medical researches conducted in Nigeria as well as to further promote and develop viable structures for the dissemination of research findings.
Prof Obafunwa emphasised NIMR’s commitment to advancing medical research and fostering collaboration with international bodies.
Following discussions, the JICA team toured key research departments, including the Bio-Bank Laboratory and Cancer Research Centre, expressing admiration for NIMR’s facilities.
During the tour, the team visited various departments in the institute such as the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology, Bio-Bank Laboratory, Department of Microbiology, Biomedical Training and Cancer Research Centre, among many others.
The JICA team was delighted about the level of progress made so far while offering insights where necessary.
Shiyeoshi Harada, who spoke on behalf of the visitors, expressed his delight in the level of advancement and state-of-the-art equipment available in various laboratory room in the institute.
He commended the DG, Prof Obafunwa and members of NIMR board of directors.
