Nigerians attempting to pay for new passports through the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) portal have faced significant challenges due to technical difficulties with the online payment platform.
The NIS confirmed these issues, acknowledging the disruption on its online payment platform for passport applications.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that this announcement followed numerous complaints from Nigerians unable to complete their applications through the portal.
In a statement titled “Technical Glitches with Online Payment Platform,” the NIS expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and assured the public that seamless service would be restored soon.
However, many users have voiced their frustration, questioning why the issue has not yet been resolved.
Lagos-based fintech analyst, Epa Stevens, commented on the situation, noting that platforms like Interswitch and Remita have successfully supported the Treasury Single Account (TSA).
He remarked, “However, with NIS transitioning to a new payment platform, we’ve witnessed a breakdown.
“This disrupts services and raises concerns about the adequacy of the platform to handle the demands of TSA effectively.”
Michael Adigun, another affected user, reported being unable to pay for a new passport. Similarly, Obinna Okafor, an importer needing to travel to China, urged the NIS to provide an alternative payment channel.
