Reports alleging the sudden death of two justices from the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal that upheld President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 election victory have been debunked by the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Court of Appeal.
Viral social media claims circulated on Monday, asserting that Justices Mistura Bolaji-Yusuf and Boloukuoromo Moses Ugo, who were among the five-member panel that delivered the September 6, 2023, verdict in Tinubu’s favor, had died mysteriously on the same day.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to the unverified posts, Justice Bolaji-Yusuf reportedly passed away in her sleep, while Justice Ugo was found unresponsive after family members heard a loud noise from his room around 2 a.m.
In response, NJC Secretary Ahmed Gambo Saleh dismissed these claims, assuring the public that both Justices are alive and actively serving.
“Please ignore the news; it is a lie. The Justices are alive, well, and doing their jobs,” Saleh affirmed.
Additionally, a high-ranking official from the Court of Appeal, speaking anonymously to Vanguard, labeled the reports as false and driven by mischief.
“It is totally false and mischievous. Their Lordships are well and in good health. It is most unfortunate that mischief-makers will sit at a corner and wish death on others. Please ignore the false news,” the official stated.
The judgment, delivered in September, affirmed President Tinubu’s election under the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing petitions from opposition parties challenging the results.
Both the NJC and Court of Appeal urged the public to disregard the rumors, attributing the reports to individuals seeking to spread misinformation.
