EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has accused Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma of plotting to assassinate the president of the union, Joe Ajaero.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the union accused Uzodinma of invading the hometown of the union’s president in Owerri, Imo State capital, on Saturday.
The union alleged that Uzodinma instituted the latest attack, believing that Ajaero would still be in his hometown recuperating from the bruises he received when he was arrested during the union’s protest on Wednesday.
“On the morning of November 4th, 2023 Governor Hope Uzodinma once again demonstrated his utter disregard for human rights and democratic principles by invading and attacking the community of Azalla Owalla in Emukuku, Owerri, Imo State, the hometown of NLC president, Comrade Joe Ajaero,” statement by the union partly read.
“it is evident that the Governor’s sinister objective is the assassination of the president of the congress, a motive laid bare by this latest act of aggression on the community. This invasion was carried out under the misguided belief that comrade Ajaero was still president, recovering from injuries inflicted by the Police and hired thugs,” it added.
This online media platform recalls that Ajaero was brutalised last week Wednesday in Owerri, the Imo state capital when he was arrested by men of the Imo State Police Command.
However, the Police denied allegations that it brutalised the union’s president, saying that it only took Mr Ajaero into preventive custody after it got intel of planned mob action against the union’s president.
Also denying involvement in last week’s brutalisation of the NLC president, Imo Governor Uzodinma said that allegations made by the labour union were geared towards denting his chances as he seeks to be re-elected as Imo governor.
