Eko Hot Blog reports that the South East Governors hosted former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday, during his solidarity visit.
They announced plans to meet with President Bola Tinubu to push for the release of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
After a marathon seven-hour meeting, the governors, led by Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodinma, addressed the media.
They also established a burial committee for late Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, chaired by former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim.

Senator Uzodinma stated, “The Forum commiserates with the family of Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, and indeed the entire South East region on the demise of His Excellency Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu. The Forum received a delegation of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, and His Royal Majesty Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, who visited in solidarity.”
He continued, “The Forum discussed the reviewed report of the South East security and economic summit held in Owerri, Imo State, on September 28, 2023, and agreed to implement aspects focusing on security and economic integration. We affirmed our commitment to actionable plans on agreed key issues.”
“The Forum resolved to visit Mr. President to discuss pressing South East concerns and to engage with the Federal Government for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release.”
The Ogbonnaya Onu burial committee, chaired by Anyim Pius Anyim, includes former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi as Secretary and other Igbo leaders from Igbo-speaking states.
