NNPC Successfully Concludes Port Harcourt Refinery Maintenance

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has accomplished its commitment to achieving mechanical completion of rehabilitation work on Area 5 Plant at the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC). This pivotal achievement comes following a significant inspection tour and the 15th Refineries’ Rehabilitation Steering Committee Meeting.

Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., highlighted the substantial progress, confirming that as of December 15, 2023, 84.4% of Area 5 Plant and 77.4% of the overall rehabilitation project have been successfully completed.

“Our promise was to achieve mechanical completion of phase one of the rehabilitation project by the end of December, and today, we have fulfilled that commitment,” stated Kyari during the inspection tour.

He praised the efforts of NNPC Ltd’s staff and the contractors for their dedication in reaching this crucial milestone, receiving commendation from Pius Akinyelure, Chairman of NNPC Ltd Board, who lauded the achievement as “historic.”

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, hailed this progress as a testament to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.

In further discussions, Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, emphasized that the refinery’s re-streaming would significantly impact the nation’s Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) industry, highlighting LPG as a major by-product.

Fabio Del Cioppo, Managing Director of Tecnimont Nig. Ltd., reiterated the commitment of his company, one of the EPC Contractors, to uphold their contractual obligations.

Additionally, Decklar Resources Inc, and Millenium Oil and Gas Company Limited confirmed the delivery of 75,500 barrels of crude to the Edo Refinery and Petrochemical Company (ERPC) and Duport Midstream Company Limited (DMCL) facilities in Edo State, marking a substantial step in their refining contracts.
