The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has criticized the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for selling petrol sourced from the Dangote Refinery at a higher price than imported fuel.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, IPMAN’s National Welfare Officer, John Kekeocha, questioned the pricing disparity. “If NNPC can sell Dangote products higher than the imported products, it doesn’t make sense. What is the celebration all about?” he asked.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that on Sunday, the NNPCL began distributing petrol from the Dangote Refinery, revealing it was procured at ₦898 per litre. However, prior to this, NNPCL retail outlets in Lagos sold imported petrol at around ₦855 per litre. Currently, Dangote-sourced petrol is sold at ₦950 in Lagos and ₦1,019 in Borno.

In response, Dangote Refinery denied selling petrol to NNPCL at ₦898 per litre.

Anthony Chiejina, a spokesperson for the refinery, called the claim “misleading and mischievous,” clarifying that the products were sold in dollars, which resulted in savings compared to imported fuel.

He also stressed that this would ensure availability across the country, even in remote areas.

Despite Dangote’s denial, NNPCL stood by its pricing claims, challenging the refinery to publicly disclose the actual selling price.

This online media platform earlier reported that NNPCL also released a detailed breakdown of Dangote-sourced petrol pricing at its filling stations nationwide.
