EKO HOT BLOG reports that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Katsina State has expelled several high-ranking officials, including the deputy gubernatorial candidate, for alleged anti-party activities. The state Public Relations Officer of the party, Nasiru Usman Kankiya, made the announcement in a statement to reporters late on Friday night.
According to the statement, Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, the deputy gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Sani LitiYankwani, the state party chairman, Dauda Kurfi, the Zonal Party Chairman, Senator Abdu Yandoma, and other party chieftains had been relieved of their positions for indulging in anti-party activities.
EDITOR’S PICKS:
The individuals were accused of attending an alliance meeting with the state All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate, Dr. Dikko Umar Radda, in Katsina recently. They were sanctioned for allegedly entering into an alliance to endorse the APC candidate ahead of the upcoming Saturday’s elections.
Kankiya said the decision of 19 out of the 26 state executive members had received the approval of the National headquarters of the party in Abuja. He added that the dismissed officials were requested to hand over all party materials in their custody to ensure continuity in the activities of the party in the state.
The NNPP gubernatorial candidate in the state, Nura Khalil, said he had been warned earlier about the activities of the concerned officials but refused to take his side of the matter.
He said, “Today, their actions have vindicated the whistleblower, as they have been caught in the act of tarnishing the reputable image of our party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party NNPP, in the state. As the governorship candidate of the party, I am still in the race, and Insha Allah will win the coming Saturday’s election in the state.”
It should be noted that Nigeria’s 2023 general elections are scheduled to hold in February 2023, which means that the upcoming election referred to in the statement is likely a by-election.
