‘No Contact From Sports Minister’- Peseiro Over Super Eagles Job

Eko Hot Blog reports that Jose Peseiro, the former head coach of the Super Eagles, has claimed that the Minister of Sports, John Enoh, did not reach out to him regarding the vacant coaching position.

Peseiro, who led the Super Eagles for more than two years, departed after his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) ended on February 29, 2024.
Peseiro’s tenure with the Super Eagles concluded following his guidance of the national team to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Since then, the NFF has been striving to appoint a permanent coach for the national team.
While concurrently naming Peseiro’s former assistant coach, Finidi George, as the team’s interim coach.
Amidst the search for a new coach, widespread reports surfaced suggesting that the sports ministry had reached out to Jose Peseiro to potentially rejoin the national team.
However, according to Soccernet, Peseiro disclosed that there had been no communication between him and the sports minister.
Additionally, he mentioned that he has been enjoying his vacation in Spain while closely following games involving Real Madrid.
Numerous coaches, both domestic and foreign, have been associated with the Super Eagles coaching position since the departure of the Portuguese tactician.

Among the leading contenders for the role are Emmanuel Amunike, Domenec Torrent, and Toni Conceicao.
In a recent interview with Channels TV, the sports minister stated that the NFF is anticipated to unveil a new coach for the Super Eagles within the next one to two weeks.
