No Encounters with Evil Spirits Under Obasanjo in Aso Rock – Jerry Gana

Former Minister of Information, Jerry Gana, on Thursday refuted claims that members of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s cabinet encountered evil spirits during their time at the State House.

Gana made this statement during a press conference to announce the upcoming four-day International Conference of the African Biblical Leadership Initiative (ABLI) in Abuja, scheduled to begin on October 21.

Themed “Value-based Leadership Model for Africa,” the ABLI initiative aims to foster a new generation of transformational leaders across the continent, with a particular emphasis on Nigeria.

Gana’s remarks were in response to allegations made by Reuben Abati, former spokesperson to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

In a 2016 article titled “The Spiritual Side of Aso Rock,” Abati claimed that a supernatural force haunted the State House, suggesting that it should be converted into a museum and abandoned. He further alleged that a cleric had informed him that Aso Rock was “full of evil spirits.”

Abati also shared his personal experiences while residing in the Presidential Villa, recounting physical ailments and sleeplessness, which prevented him from staying in his assigned apartment for more than an hour over a six-month period.

When asked if he had encountered similar supernatural phenomena during his tenure, Gana, appearing perplexed, denied such experiences. He clarified that while he didn’t witness any demonic occurrences during Obasanjo’s administration, this does not negate the possibility of their existence.

He said, “We don’t live in a world where you’re free to do whatever you want. You’re either for light or darkness, for God or the devil. There are spiritual forces at play, and unless you’ve made a spiritual commitment, you may not know where you stand. So yes, the existence of spiritual forces is real, as the Bible says we are the light of the world.”

He continued, “Whatever tensions others may have referred to, I don’t know. In our time, we didn’t see any demons—maybe they were too afraid of us. But that doesn’t mean they’re not there.”

Reflecting on his time in Obasanjo’s government, Gana said they met for prayers daily. “During the eight years of General Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, we gathered every morning at 6 a.m. to pray for wisdom and guidance from God. We believed in God’s sovereignty and sought His direction to do the best for the country.
