EKO HOT BLOG reports that Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has revealed that Bukayo Saka will continue as Arsenal’s penalty taker despite his costly miss in the game against West Ham on Sunday.
The young forward missed a crucial penalty during the 2-2 draw against the Hammers at the London Stadium. In a post-match interview with Sky Sports, Arteta defended Saka, stating that every penalty taker misses penalties and that he would still pick him as the team’s designated penalty taker.
Arteta said: “A player who takes penalties misses penalties, I don’t know anyone who hasn’t. If I had to pick one player to do it, it would be him again. In that moment we missed it and this is football.”
The miss was Saka’s first in the Premier League, having previously scored two penalties in the competition this season.
The 21-year-old has been one of Arsenal’s standout players this season and has been trusted with penalty-taking duties with the Arsenal star having scored from the spot in previous games to win the Gunners points.
Despite Saka’s miss, Arsenal managed to earn a point against West Ham, with goals from Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard. The result leaves the Gunners in first place in the Premier League table, four points above Manchester City who are currently licking their fingers knowing they have a game in hand.
