EKO HOT BLOG reports that former Vice President and Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has announced that the party is open to forming an alliance with Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).
Atiku made this statement at a press conference on Thursday, where he spoke about the results of the 2023 general elections.
Atiku said that he did not foresee any issues if Obi wished to hold talks with the PDP about forming an alliance for future elections. Obi was Atiku’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election, but this time around, both men were running for the PDP ticket before Obi defected to the LP.
Atiku came second in the presidential election behind Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while Obi came third. The two candidates are currently heading to court to contest the official results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking on the possibility of forming an alliance with Obi, Atiku said, “I don’t think we will have any problem if he wants to dialogue with PDP, either to form an alliance or not.” He expressed confidence that the PDP and Obi would be able to work together effectively if they decided to form an alliance.
Atiku’s statement has generated reactions from political observers, with many saying that a possible alliance between the PDP and LP could change the political landscape in Nigeria. However, it remains to be seen if the two parties will come to an agreement on forming an alliance or not.
