Prof. Aminu Ibrahim, the Rector, Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto, says the institution did not record any protest by students over the death of a student, Eko hot blog gathered.
Ibrahim however told newsmen on Saturday in Sokoto that an ND I student of Public Administration Department, Zainab Owoade, died on March 2 after a fight with her colleague outside the polytechnic.
He explained that the two students, who are from the same village in Oyo State, are not ND II but ND I students.
“The incident did not happen in the hostel as both are residing outside the campus.
“The school is not shut as a result of the incident, school activities are still going on as scheduled.
“There is no protest whatsoever by any student of the institution either in the school premises or outside, and there was no tension in the state or school premises as reported.

“Moreover, the suspect is still in police custody at the police headquarters and not released, and the student alleged to be interviewed by a newspaper with name Aliu Kareem is not a student of the institution,” Ibrahim said.
While commisserating with the family of the deceased, the rector assured that the school management would ensure justice on the matter.
Speaking on behalf of the deceased family, Dr Ahmed Surajodden, Acting Head of Department of Curriculum Studies, Sokoto State University, appreciated the measures taken by the polytechnic in addressing the situation.
Meanwhile, the Police command in the state has confirmed the report.
The command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Sunusi Abubakar, said investigation on the circumstance that led to the unfortunate incident is still on.
