No Ransom Paid for Kidnapped Nasarawa LG Chairman – Police Debunks Reports

 

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Nasarawa State Police Command has refuted claims of a ransom being paid for the release of Safiyanu Andaha, the abducted chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area.

In an interview with Punch, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, stated unequivocally that no ransom was exchanged for Andaha’s freedom.

Andaha was kidnapped alongside another individual, Adamu Umar, on New Year’s Day at Ningo village along the Andaha-Akwanga Road.

Despite reports of their release, the PPRO clarified that no money exchanged hands for their freedom.

He mentioned, “No ransom was paid. The victim and the person the abductors contacted confirmed to us that no dime was paid.”

The duo regained freedom around 8.40 pm on Tuesday due to the persistent efforts of police operatives who relentlessly pursued the abductors. The kidnappers had initially demanded N50 million for their release.

Moreover, the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Nadada, mobilized personnel to track down the perpetrators and ensure the safe return of the kidnapped chairman and the other individual.
