No Regrets for Working Against PDP, Atiku in 2023 Presidential Election – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has firmly stated that he has no apologies for opposing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 presidential election.

Wike explained that his decision to work against his party’s presidential candidate was driven by the PDP’s abandonment of fairness, equity, and justice. The former Rivers State governor clarified that while he supported the PDP in state-level elections, he could not back the party in the presidential race.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Wike also distanced himself from the former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, dismissing claims that Okocha was his ally.

“Tony Okocha is not my man. They fought me during the governorship election. Just because he’s my friend doesn’t mean I brought him into the APC,” Wike said.

He further elaborated on his stance during the 2023 elections: “For the presidential election, I was committed to supporting equity, fairness, and justice. For the other elections, I backed my party, which is why we won the governorship and National Assembly elections. But for the presidential election, I opposed the PDP because I do not stand for injustice or exclusion. I have no apologies to offer to anyone for that decision.”
