No Serious Politician Will Ignore Opportunity Of Becoming President – Fayemi
- No serious politician, according to Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, would give up the chance to become President of Nigeria.
Fayemi, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, made the remarks on Channels Television’s “Hard Copy” show, which aired on Friday.
“I am laughing,” Fayemi, who has been endorsed for the presidency by the Ekiti State House of Assembly, said in response to a comment. Why do you think that is? This is a topic I am often asked.
I don’t know of any serious-minded leader who, if given the chance to rule a country with the blessings that we have – despite the obstacles – will refuse to do so, but we aren’t there yet.
The governor, who was instrumental in the breakup of the All Progressives Congress’s National Working Committee, has remained tight-lipped on whether he will run for President in 2023. Rather, he mentioned that he intended to finish his term in October 2022.

“I’m thinking about doing well in Ekiti in 2022. I’m working. To be honest, I am eternally grateful to the people of Ekiti for giving me the chance to lead the state twice, and I still have a lot to achieve on that agenda.
“As a result, the future will look after itself. I have no way of knowing what will happen, but I do know that I am the Governor of Ekiti State, and my term will end in October 2022. “For the time being, that is the work I have,” Fayemi said.
The NGF chairman criticized the Federal Government’s decision to spend $1.5 billion in refurbishing the Port Harcourt refinery, but admitted that he did not have all the details.
He also said that the Federal Government would persuade organized labor and Nigerians in general to support deregulation.
