Renowned Nollywood director Dimeji Ajibola, known for his work on the hit series Shanty Town, has passed away.
The news of his death was shared by actor Bolanle Ninalowo, who expressed his condolences in an Instagram post: “I love you brother and I will miss you @dimejiajibola. May God heal your family and loved ones. Till we meet again, dido vox. Rest on Champ.”

Ajibola was celebrated as a visionary in Nollywood, known for merging traditional and digital artistry in groundbreaking ways.
His expertise extended beyond film direction, encompassing animation, visual effects (VFX), virtual worlds, and interactive media.
He trained in filmmaking and cinematography at the New York Film Academy at Universal Studios, studied advanced character animation at Animation Mentor in San Francisco, and specialized in visual effects at VFXLearning.
As the CEO and Technical Director of Flipsyde Studios Ltd., Ajibola earned a reputation for innovation and excellence. His 2012 film Hoodrush, Nigeria’s first urban musical, showcased his talent for blending rich narratives with compelling musical elements.
The film received numerous awards, including Best Movie at the 2012 Green Me Film Festival in Germany, Best Actor and Soundtrack at the Nollywood Movies Awards, and Best Supporting Actor at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).
Ajibola’s passing leaves a significant void in the Nigerian film industry, where he will be remembered for his creative contributions and pioneering spirit.
