Nollywood: NFC Trains 125 Youths In Abuja On Filmmaking
The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has trained 125 youths in the art and business of filmmaking under its ‘Entrepreneurial Training Programme’ in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The training, which held from Nov. 21 to 23, had veteran Nollywood players, as well as seasoned entrepreneurs as resources persons and facilitators for the youths.
Participants were taught rudiments of Filmmaking, Non-Linear Editing, Cinematography and Script Writing as well as basic entrepreneurial skills and know-how needed for successful business.
Dr Chidia Maduekwe, Managing Director of the NFC, in his address, said the training was designed to complement the capacity building programme of the NFC for emerging talents in the motion picture industry across the six geo-political zones.
According to him, the training is for upcoming creative artistes and filmmakers in the North-Central and will be extended to other zones across Nigeria.
He explained that Nollywood offered a lot of opportunities; there was need to equip upcoming industry players with essential professional know-how and the basic entrepreneurial skills to grow as filmmakers and thereby creating jobs.
“We have been teaching them the technical skills required for filmmaking, now they need the entrepreneurial skills to do well because filmmaking is a serious business.
“We want them not just to be self-employed but to create jobs for others as well and there is no doubt in my mind that this training has fulfilled that desire.”
Maduekwe, therefore, urged them to apply what they learnt from the workshop in the pursuit of their careers, adding that the programme was to equip them as emerging professionals in the motion picture industry.
NAN reports that the Nigerian Film Corporation is a Federal Government Agency with the mandate to grow and develop a viable film industry for Nigeria.
It spearheads the acquisition and maintenance of facilities for film production and provides training and advancement of skills and talents of persons employed in the Nigerian film industry generally.
